Lothian region Jo Imrie has been selected by Special Olympic Great Britian as head coach for Judo at the Abu Dhabi 2019 World Games.

Lothian Special Olympic-Sheffield Team Launch at Beeslack Community High School
Saw the whole Lothian Special Olympic team coming together for a team building session of all the sports that will be taking part in the National summer games in August. This team building day is an excellent opportunity for all the athletes to get to know he coaches and athletes form other sports that will be travelling to Sheffield.
Today saw the 2nd JudoScotland National Disability Session of the year which was held a Ratho.
It was great to see a judo players coming together from all across Scotland to attend this session. This two hour session is desgined to give a little extra training and assistant the judo players by breaking down technques in to small blocks to aid learning.

Another successful East of Scotland Annual Judo Competition. Once again it was great to see so many regulars to our annual competition as well as some new friends.
2017 saw ESSN competition a qualifying event for Sheffield National Summer Games.
The atmosphere at this competition is always buzzing with excitement from a great standard of judo.
Jo and Janice are extremely proud of ESSN competition and always strive to make it an event that players want to return to year after year.
2018 will be ESSN 10th year that Jo and Janice have run this event. Both are looking forward to this amazing landmark

Anyone wanting to attend Lothian Special Olympic AGM 6.15pm Eliburn Day Centre, Livingston. Please feel free to come along and get involved in LSO.
February saw some of the ESSN players and coaches head down to Walsall for a British Judo Assocation SN training day.
This was a whole day event, where it was great to meet lots of friends and some new friends as well. The players had diffenent session with different coaches and hopefully they all took something new away with them.
Washington SN Compeition 2016 was unfortunately cancelled due to low numbers, Lets hope this competition runs next year.
November saw ESSN team away to Venray in Holland. ESSN players did exceptionally well winning 4 Golds, 1 Silver and 3 Bronzes medals. The team had a great weekend with lovely food and great company.
24th October saw the athletes and coaches from Lothian Special Olympics attend a World Summer Games Reunion in Runcorn. The theme of the evening was Hollywood. The LSO team were looking fantastic and what a wonderful evening cathching up with friends that they made in their individual sports and also with friends from other sports that they had not seen since LA.
August 2015 saw ESSN travel to the British Open SN Compeition at Stoke Manderville. The compeition was reasonably well attended. ESSN player as always did us and theirselfs proud and of course rose to the occassion. The players come home with 4 Golds, 2 Silvers and 1 Bronze.
Jo, Kathleen and Christopher headed of to the World Summer Games in LA. An amazing time was had by all the GB team. Kathleen and Christopher were fantastic ambassadors for GB.

Another fine and successful competition organised by Jo Imrie and Janice Graham. Both Jo and Janice were pleased to see so many of their Judo friends that they have made over the years support their annual event, as well as the new competitors that have just started to compete, they look forward to seeing you all next year.

BRITISH JUDO ASSOCATION INCLUSSION DAY
7th Feburary was the first British Judo Assocation Inclussion Day to take part. The day saw a varied range of players with different disabilities attending the day. Players trained together and with top coaches and athletes as the initiative showed how it is possible to overcome barriers to inclusion, to answer questions that athletes, coaches and others had about visually impaired and special needs judo and to provide a future focus for inclusion for all at both a grassroots and performance levels
CONGRATUATIONS TO GEORGE AND JANICE BBC SPORT UNSUNG HERO AWARD 2014
Congratulations to George and Janice Graham who have won the BBC Sport Unsung Hero award for their services to Judo.
George and Janice have run the Kyushinkwai judo club in Sighthill, Edinburgh, for over 30 years with countless judo players passing through their doors. Not only do they run the club but they are also few of the main coaches for disability judo taking players to competitions and dedicating endless hours of their time for free. George and Janice are both qualified in nearly all judo volunteering opportunities such as table official, senior recorder and Janice is also senior examiner - it is hard not to find George and Janice at JudoScotland event.
This award could not have gone to more deserving people and was presented by Euan Burton and Amy Childs on behalf of the BBC. The whole event will be televised on 14th December 2014 on the BBC Sports Personality Awards

BRITISH OPEN SN CHAMPIONSHIPS NOVEMBER 2014
23rd November saw Essn take a trip now to Cardiff for the British SN Championships 2014. Having started our journey with a megabus ride throughout the night down. Coaches and players arrived bright and ready to compete. Essn took
3 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronzes. Well done to all those who competed.

JUDO FOR PEACE PROJECT JULY 2014
Congratulations to Christopher Murphy form Pro Judo who was selected for this fantastic event.
The Judo for Peace project was officially launched on Tuesday. Mr. Envic Galea, the CEO of the Malta Judo Foundation during the launching of the project highlighted that Judo is not only a sport but a way of life. In view of this the Malta Judo Foundation invested in this project so that through the process of non formal education and active participation judokas are getting the opportunity to practice the judo moral code within the different social contexts. Through this process young people participating in this project are getting hands on experience and shall be engaging in a process of learning by doing. This project shall trigger further educational initiatives in different countries following the networking process which is aimed to be carried out throughout the programme.
Sunday 8th June saw players from East of Scotland Disability Judo Group take place in the BUPA charity disabillity championships at Ravencraig Regional Sports Facilities in Motherwell
BRITISH SN CLOSED CHAMPIONSHPS 2012 A fantastic weekend for ESSN Players at the British Special Needs Closed Championships 2012 held in Swindon. Coaches Jo and Janice were impressed with the standard of judo demonstrated by the players, it shows the hard work that they have put in for this competition.

21st April 2012 saw another great day for at East of Scotland Physical and Intellectual Disability Judo Compeition held at Craigswood Sports Centre, Livingston. ESSN is an annual competition which is a great start for any player with a physical or intellectual disability to gain their first experience at competition but also caters for the more experiEnced players.ESSN has a great atmosphere and all the helpers and volunteer are a great bunch and give their time free of charge. Looking forward to next years competition.
SENIOR MENS GB TEAM OKIJK HOLLAND SEPTEMBER 2011
Last Weekend 17th September 2011 saw our own coach Jo Imrie having the honnor of being of the Great Britian coaches who took the Gbreat Britian Senior men team to Odikj in Holland for the Dutch Open Championships. Jo said that the players performances were outstanding and it was a pleasure to be part of their team.

BRADLEY STOKE 2011
Bradley Stoke saw the start of the competitive season for players from the East of Scotland Special Needs and Disability Judo Group (ESSN) and what a start it was.
There were gold medals from Richard Cook, Aaron James and Nicky Lou James, along with Nicola Tuxworth taking a bronze medal.
All four of these players have been selected to represent Great Britain in Beverwijk Holland in April.
A special well done to Nicky Lou James, as this is the first time she has been selected at the age of 11 years.
James Rivals also secured a complimentary gold medal with an outstanding performance in a group that was put together especially for him on the day.
Jo Imrie would like to thank the organisers of the event for adapting to our players needs.
Although financially this competition was a stretch for some of our players, it was good to support another domestic event especially so close to our own East of Scotland Special Needs Judo Competition on 23rd April 2011.
BRITISH JUDO SN PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2011
Congratulations to Richard Cooke who won, The British Judo Association Special Needs Player of the year Award for 2011. Richard who trains at The Edinburgh Club is a great Ambassador for the Sport of Judo. A well deserved award, keep up the great work Richard.
